Clifford Possum was involved in the original acrylic art movement at Papunya, and is classified as one of the forefathers of contemporary Aboriginal art, and one of its most talented and skilled painters.
Like many western desert painters Clifford began his career as a stockman, and became a proficient wood carver before he was introduced to acrylic paint and canvas by his older brother Tim Leura and Kaapa Tjampitjinpa. Clifford went on to be elected chairman of Papunya Tula Artist in the late 1970's.
Today, Clifford's paintings are represented in major collections and still feature in major exhibitions throughout the world. His paintings are characteristically complex and meticulously executed in unexpectedly harmonious colour combinations, and highlight the true mastery of this highly talented and important artist. This painting comes with a number of 'working photographs' showing Clifford at work.
