Ray James is the son of Anatjari Tjampitjinpa, one of the Papunya Art Movements founding members.
It was in the early 1970‘s, along with the likes of George Tjungarrayi that Ray James began learning to paint under the guidance of the the senior artists.
His work depicts Tingari Tjukurrpa. Ray James and his famous father featured in the historic Papunya Tula: Genesis and Genius exhibition in 2000.
