Watiya Tjula - Uwalki
Mitjili has a very rich cultural heritage being the daughter of Tjunkiya Napaltjarri and the sister of Turkey Tolson Tjupurrula. She is married to well known Ikuntji (Haasts Bluff) artist Long Tom Tjapanangka. Mitjili's work is exciting for it's fresh, contemporary intepretations.
She represents her dreamings through highly stylised, bold design shapes. Since 1993, she has mastered her technique, and created a style that can only be recogised as her own.
As a testament to her innovation, Mitjili's painting feature in major state art collections throughout Australia, such as the Art Gallery of South Australia and the Art Gallery of NSW. Mitjili continues to develop and master her distinctive technique, and create highly collectable, contemporary Aboriginal art that keeps her heritage alive and strong. She paints Spear Dreaming, Watiya Tjuta (trees) and various bush tucker Dreamings.
