Queenie was a remarkable and respected indigenous leader and internationally renowned artist from the East Kimberley region. She lived her whole life at Texas Downs. From the rolling hills to the colour of the earth, this innate knowledge of her land is depicted in each painting she produced.
Queenie was inspired by her long time friend, Rover Thomas, and that inspiration can be seen when works of both artists are viewed together. Queenie tended to mix in softer colours including dusty pinks, and subtle purples. She used her painting to teach others about Australian culture; the stories of European settlement and the impact on her homelands and people Her paintings hold an important place in the Aboriginal Art Movement and are collected by galleries and museums worldwide.
